To start off with, I left a job that I was very happy because of the promise of a much better opportunity! I was NEVER able to perform in that job. So, if you are happy where you currently are, don't accept an offer here...RUN!
The administrative support is absolutely horrible and really doesn't know what they are doing. They have a script that they stick to with no outside thought. They do as they are told and nothing more. They give you $50/day per diem regardless of where you are working in the country (US established rates don't apply), and they give you $.50/mile for your personal vehicle travel regardless of the rate established by the US. They use an old out of date system for expense reports and constantly promise an upgrade, not sure how that will turn out. They also try to hold you to IL labor law regardless of what state you reside in!
Management underbids projects extensively and expects the project team to compensate. The last project I was on was underbid by $1 million or about 50% of the total price. The build would normally require 4 people for about a year. They bid it to be done in 6 months with two full-time people a PM and some remote help.
There are some very knowledgeable and nice people that you MAY get to work with. However, there are some EXTREME inter-office politics at play so you shouldn't trust ANYONE.
You can't speak up about anything or you get fired!
AST is currently hiring big time. Be careful of what you are promised and get EVERYTHING in writing.
