Strong Company, but takes advantage of employees

Pros

The company has a strong mission. The leadership team does a great job of making conservative decisions that keep the company financially strong, ensuring that the company remains stable and there is not a need for layoffs. The company provides a thoughtful approach to employee benefits.

Cons

While there are growth opportunities, internal promotions and long-tenure causes employees to fall significantly behind the market in compensation as compared to more recent hires. The forced increase in the number of in-office days has caused significant stress without the promised benefit, especially for those with long commutes. I truly believe that there has been a decrease in productivity since the return to office due to the emotional and mental toll of the in-office environment. The company regularly says that they are going to focus on main priorities and not try to do "everything at once", but then they continue to pressure for "everything at once". This runs employees into the ground and contributes to burn-out.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. Your thoughtful review and feedback will be shared with our executive leadership team. Considering your tenure at First Command, you likely well know how we advocate for our employees to share constructive criticism here and with their management teams for us all to learn and grow. We understand that as an employee-owned business, our employees are invested in the company's future and we take all feedback seriously. While we recognize your stance on compensation, our approach to hybrid work, and business priorities, we must set the record straight on First Command's stance on our employees. We are proud of the incredible work and culture our employees create and build upon each day here in the Home Office, and we believe that the strength of our business and mission is because of the talent our people bring to the table and the commitment our employees share to our mission of coaching military personnel and their families in their pursuit of financial security. They are our competitive advantage, not something to take advantage of. Thank you for your feedback.

Pros

First Command is led by an inspirational, personable, and experienced CEO who has a great vision for where we need to go while staying true to who we are and why this company was founded. The culture welcomes and encourages a fun time that both supports our community and exemplifies the true meaning of patriotism by always remaining focused on our active military and veterans. The mission of the company drives the hard work of the teams here at First Command. In addition to standard benefits, additional perks are nice too - gym, pickleball courts, food vendors on site, hybrid schedule, practical dress code, free garage parking, financial planning, many volunteer opportunities, and plenty others.

Cons

Base pay can be on the lower end, but overall the company is great to work for and the mission and people you get to serve can make it worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Our mission at First Command is incredibly important to our employees and Advisors. They tell us that one of the most compelling elements of this career is the opportunity to serve military personnel and their families in a meaningful way. At First Command, we are committed to attracting and retaining talented people. In our Home Office in Fort Worth, Texas, employees enjoy opportunities for professional growth, and we reward them through an attractive compensation and benefits program. We offer competitive pay supplemented with a generous benefits package. As an employee-owned company, we offer an Employee Stock Ownership Program to qualified employees. This valuable retirement benefit is funded entirely by company contributions. Meanwhile, in our local offices across the U.S. and overseas, office managers and other support staff professionals enjoy pay and benefits set by our local Advisors. In all cases the goal is to attract the best people and reward them for committed service. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on our Home Office. Renovations are underway and we are hopeful to continue providing a collaborative space where employees can feel comfortable doing the best work of their lives in support of the best clients in the world, our nation's military families.
