Pros

Flexible work schedule, friendly work environment, technology for network systems always improving.

Cons

Considered contract workers to Advisors, no set salaries, no benefits, lack of training at the Branch level on new products, little to no opportunity in the field for advancement other than licensing.

Very Supportive Team

Pros

I have worked for First Command for about 5 years now and our team is extremely supportive and driven. There is so much flexibility in this career and I love that I can schedule around my family (family is always first) and schedule around furthering my education. First Command offers a very extensive training program and invests in its Advisors by giving them all of the training and tools needed to succeed. I am very proud to be a part of this team and to be able to truly help families (especially Military families) get Squared Away and achieve Financial success.

Cons

Challenging position due to passing licensing requirements, however, very rewarding for the a very driven candidate. definitely a career that an Advisor needs to stick with and not give up on. It is not the right career for someone just looking for a "job" to get by.

Fair pay, but it's only a job.

Pros

Fair pay, nice building. Gym on site. Work life balance. Training classes available for free.

Cons

Mandatory classes on ownership and feedback are given but not used. Ownership is encouraged, meaning you should take responsibility and be accountable for your work. Unfortunately it is not enforced. This lack of accountability creates a lot of work for people that notice the problems. If you notice it, you fix it despot if it's your job or not. Feedback and open communication are taught in developmental training. These classes are written by experts but taught by HR. Management does not participate in receiving feedback. A career development guide and class list are available to every employee but management will not participate in its employees growth and development. Their focus is only on their own career opportunities. Senior management will tell you what you do wrong but they will not help you improve. Basically, if you aren't on the path they won't help you get on it. Several executive positions are open or soon to retire and it is clear that senior management's only concern is getting that executive position and not on work or employee development. It is a race to the top and everyone is in.

Pros

First Command is a positive influence in the industry and the people here truly care about their Advisors, Employees and most of all, their Customers. Here you have the ability to help people in a meaningful way in the area that causes most people significant stress - finances. Your compensation is based on performance rather than rank or seniority. Their training program is comprehensive and free; they pay for all licensing and certification and provide a base salary plus production-based bonuses during your first year while your commissions build.

Cons

It's a challenging career because people are too caught up in today to care about their future. It's easy to get frustrated and discouraged from the cancellations and no-shows. This is more of a calling than a career. You have to honestly care enough about people to pursue them in their own best interest.
