Pros

Great coworkers, overall a laid back environment. If you're willing to work hard and learn, they'll give you more responsibility

Cons

While the company is willing to give more responsibility, they are rarely willing to compensate or promote based on that added responsibility. The company is not focused on inside talent. Hires from outside. Morale is low and HR refuses to look at inside talent unless they have a degree.

Pros

It's a place where you can be passionate about video games and all out geekery.

Cons

They only let you work 8 hours a week unless you're a manager. If you're a manager, which there are usually only 3 at any one location, they let you work 40. At minimum wage with only 8 hours a week, it's not enough to sustain anyone. Also, GameStops management styles range drastically from one to the other. This is not necessarily a con as long as you are aware of what style you want. One that gets visited by a majority of parents will be far more strict rather than one that's clientele is mostly younger people and gamers. A system is also in place at GameStop that counts sales and pits each Retail Clerk against each other for numbers. Only subscriptions to their magazine and preorders count. If you want to move into management, you need to get the highest numbers. I wasn't a salesman type, so I list this as a con, but honestly it depends on who you are and what you want to be.

Pros

-Discounts -Privilege to "check out" games for a short period of time for free -Building "relationships" with customers who come to trust and listen to you

Cons

-(As a manager) While we stress that "the customer always comes first", upper management seems to more often frown upon incomplete tasks than dissatisfied customers -Payroll is constant issue. The company may have zero debt, but its employees suffer often by either overworking those on salary (store managers), or not providing sufficient help to those who are not (assistant manager/senior game advisers) -Numbers are more favored than satisfied -Hard work and sacrifice seems to be under-appreciated by the company. However, having a great supervisor (which I do) alleviates that to some degree
