WAS an amazing place to work - now it just needs a lot of work

Pros

- You'll get to work with great people (those that are still remaining) - Fully stocked kitchen and refrigerators, including Nitro Cold Brew and Kombucha kegs - Free chair massages every other week & catered lunches every once in a while - Unlimited PTO makes it easy to plan vacations without having to worry too much about counting down days - Finally starting to offer some cool volunteering events to give back to the community - Some outside of work events such as trips to the African American History Museum - Solid product

Cons

- Across all departments, pay is NOT industry standard. Every single team member at GoCanvas could be making more money elsewhere. They counter this by claiming that they do annual salary audits to match up with the standard. If they are actually doing these audits, they must be doing something improperly. - Questionable hires into certain upper management positions. I'll leave it at that... - Changes are implemented on a daily basis without a plan of fully executing them when the time comes. They're really good at releasing a new idea to be used "effective immediately", but not know the repercussions or next steps that come from these changes. This leads to a very hectic and chaotic work environment. - Obviously there is always going to be change when an acquisition occurs. If you don't like change, you shouldn't work at a start-up. However, certain promises were made by the CEO and upper management when the acquisition occurred that were not followed through with. If you look up reviews of other companies that were acquired by K1, you'll be shocked at how eerily similar they speak about broken promises made by upper management. - Turnover (another somewhat common theme is acquired start-ups) is HUGE here. This has been especially true over the last 6-months or so. Plenty of high-up people have left due to disagreements with upper management and the decisions that are being made. Those that don't leave talk negatively about the company openly all day at work. As you can probably imagine, this doesn't make for the most friendly work environment. - Depending on the department you're in, not a ton of room for growth. Sure there are title bumps here and there, but they most certainly don't come with much of a paycheck bump. - Not that it should be make or break... but no type of holiday party AT ALL in 2019. This was one of the best parts of 2018 at GoCanvas.

Hey there, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Glassdoor community. As you know, over the past 10 days we have moved swiftly to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, the stocked kitchens and the cold brew has been switched to Keurig coffee at home for most as our teams are working remotely, often with children underfoot now that schools and daycares are closed. We have been transparent with the team about the situation and worked to support a smooth transition to work from home. The feedback we have received so far is that the support from leadership and team leads has been great and that what is needed now is more collaboration and connection between team members, and we are working on virtual coffee meetups and happy hours. The whole team has stepped up, spending more time with our customers to learn how to better support and serve them during this challenging time, something we are immensely proud of. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Acquired, not invested in.

Pros

GoCanvas was acquired by a private equity company, K1 Capital, for 150m. This proves we are a leader in the market and validates the hard work put in. The GoCanvas software itself is an amazing tool that can transform clients businesses but does need some attention to keep up with the competition. The market potential is unlimited. Constant departures, layoffs, and external hiring freezes provide opportunity to progress your title quickly.

Cons

This was an acquisition, not an investment, contrary to internal messaging and comes with the classic pains of a private equity takeover including the need to cut costs wherever possible. Pay is low and stagnant, and even those leaving due to underperformance are seeing significantly better offers.

Thanks for taking the time to highlight GoCanvas strengths as well as areas of opportunity. We certainly can agree that the tool is transformative for our partners, customers, and future clients! But, we stand firm that the best way to deliver value to our customers is in delivering value to the employees within our walls. I'm sorry you are unhappy, and please know that while we read and respond to all of the reviews, the primary purpose is to bring them back and prioritize initiatives based on the feedback we receive from our valuable team members. We're on it, and we appreciate the time you took to give us some direction here today.

Management doesn’t have a sense of what they are doing Pay is on the lower end for this area for your role There is hardly an accurate training for your exact role Goals seem very unattainable They say they want diversity but their actions don’t match up with their words

Hey there, thank you for taking the time to share your experience at GoCanvas with the Glassdoor community. I'm sorry to hear that GoCanvas wasn't a fit for you, our fast-paced dynamic sales team is not a fit for everybody. We are deeply committed to diversity in recruiting and to ensuring that our workplaces are inclusive and welcoming places for all. Our practice is to not send out a letter of offer unless a diverse set of candidates were interviewed for a role. The support for diversity goes beyond policy though, our most recent rockstar awards, nominated by the team, were given to team members who championed diversity in their departments. We acknowledge in the past that we weren't the best at training, this year we established a Learning and Development team that has already rolled out training programs in sales skills, leadership, security, and diversity & inclusion with rave reviews from the team. Thanks again for sharing your experience and we wish you all the best in your future career.
