Pros

GuideOne had a leadership change about 15 months ago, and coincidentally, about the time I joined the company. Since that time, the company has really changed. Leaders have an open door policy; feedback is solicited in formal sessions as well as informally; employees have been given two additional days of holiday pay, a total of 10 days (that's like an additional 2 weeks of vacation); the CEO meets with employees quarterly and shares overall company performance, priorities, and upcoming news. Employees seem committed to the company and their specific job. The company has an onsite fitness center at the home office location; they offer periodic "roof top" gatherings where refreshments are served; and they have hosted two of the nicest Christmas parties ever. The leadership is engaged with the workforce. Performance reviews are conducted on an ongoing basis and the employee has an opportunity to record their achievements and update their performance record at anytime. Human Resources has been rolling out new programs that make the employee's life easier, such as, employee managed timekeeping, PTO balances, leave and earning statements, 401K enrollment, AND the company just raised their 401K contribution to 7%. They offer free lunch everyday, gym membership reimbursement and education assistance as well. While all of this is enticing, the things I like the most about GuideOne is the leadership and the overall work-environment. I have always worked for large institutions where I have felt lost in the crowd. With our leadership engagement and their transparency, they know who people are and welcome interaction. I appreciate that, a lot!

Cons

With change, comes new procedures, policies, etc. This is typical of any company seeking excellence, but does require one's attention and response. GuideOne has been upgrading a whole host of technology programs and resources. I would like to see new technology for the Loss Control Department, such as iPads for use when doing field surveys.
