Pros

- There is flexibility in scheduling. - Senior Tax Professionals are extremely helpful and willing to teach. - The local office managers are very nice, work super hard and have taken on more responsibility and offices in every year I worked there. - The tax training classes are very good. - Tax preparation is very interesting.

Cons

- They offer super low pay (minimum wage) for a position that requires a lot of training, knowledge and legal responsibility. - There is no pay for annual, mandatory IRS CPUs. - Tax Professionals are forced to up sell useless insurance, cash advance, and identity protection products. - Pay is directly tied to how many products you sell. - Tax Professionals are forced to do their own marketing. - Upper management is in constant disarray. There were so many changes in Regional, District and Office Managers over three seasons, I couldn't keep track. The split with Block Advisors was very poorly handled. - The software is antiquated. - The high prices are only disclosed to the client after a tax return is completed, causing sticker shock. The Tax Professional is left having to explain this to the client, and then is held responsible when a client walks. - The bonus and pay structure creates a back stabbing environment between Tax Professionals. - There are no benefits, or chances of every getting benefits.

Pros

Used to be fun pass time where your work was appreciated. Today we are seen as robotics pushed to the limit to produce more returns at ridiculous fees. Even though we are paid on commission I often gasp how much a simple return is charged.

Cons

Poor management, poor pay, poor working conditions, poorly organized and structured, dirty offices, lacklustre support from upper management.

Pros

Comfortable work environment, decent pay scale

Cons

Their culture wasn't up to par. They take advantage of customers and don't take a one-on-one approach to the employment process which leads to poor customer-business relationships and a "fast-food" type environment, only for higher profits, not to decrease lavish spending. They could have a better image if upper management put less in their pockets.

Pros

Co-workers were a close-knit group who'd been working together for years. All of the tax pros in my office were knowledgeable and professional. Plenty of opportunities to pick up extra hours early in the tax season. Comfortable office setting. $10 per hour wage. Worthwhile if you need something temporary.

Cons

Horrific management. Upper management was kind and only came in occasionally, but the office manager was a terror. Everyone looked forward to when they left or weren't scheduled for that day. I know a few complaints were issued, but upper management always sided with the manager instead of the tax pros.

Pros

Work life balance if you have the right manager Access to information Benefits Autonomy in some districts

Cons

Lots of excessive drinking at management meetings and conventions by corporate managers, human resource managers Cutthroat Upper management lies constantly HR handles issues poorly and just wants to “sweep it under the rug” when you’re a manager calling on an employee So hard up for tax pros they will rehire anyone no matter how many times they’ve been reported to HR Don’t bother busting you rear to preform well, promotions are given out based on who is “liked” more not by who performs better. The numbers prove it. Left hand never knows what the right hand is doing with company MVPs What is a good idea and the way to do something today could be the dumbest idea tomorrow Disorganization You will be promised the world to boost your performance but in the end it was just all fluff DO NOT FALL FOR THE “talking up” it’s just to benefit the manager NOT YOU When fluff doesn’t work scare tactics will, you will always feel like you are disposable at any moment.
