Pros

Some really great people to work with.

Cons

Lacking overall IT governance, upper management support and clear direction from an architecture standpoint. Work life balance doesn't apply to full-time IT associates only to field and business associates.

Pros

Great office team, ability to learn, great engagement with clients

Cons

I worked for H&R Block Fromm 2009-2016. In 2016, l had to leave a position as Client Services Leader suddenly because of a medical condition. I left phone messages for my DM as well as emails and texts. He never contacted me.....I never received any get-well messages from upper management. He was relatively new at Block but I don't think it's good to treat a loyal employee the way I was treated. I did receive a form letter signed by him in January, 2017 to remind me of the no-compete clause in my contract.

Pros

You can do your own taxes for free with great software. Great tax training

Cons

The pay is the worst. Rock bottom in base salary and in bonus payout. A tax preparer doesn't even get 10% of their earnings per tax return prepared. The prices are too high for customers, causing them to not return, which makes upper management place the blame on the preparer. Marketing strategies are stuck in the 1920s. The company thinks door to door salesmen still exist in a modern world. There is no direct communication between corporate and stores leading to clients being confused when they need support. The company competes against itself by having tax prices charge for things they offer online for free. There is no such thing as a job well done. There is always more you can do.

H&R Block and Sears are so similar.

Pros

Great training and had the chance to work with many great professionals.

Cons

Upper management is a train wreck. Many have been with the company a long time and think that demanding more time and more attention from every employee will fix the business. The company has been losing market share to competitors every year. Working for H&R Block demands a commitment of 7 days and 7 nights a week...12 - 14 hours most every day! And that's even in the summer and fall months. The company loses clients and then raises prices every year.

Pros

- Flexible scheduling - Great associate recognition system

Cons

- Low low low salary - $9/hour after having to go through about 6 weeks of training/education - Management expects employees to basically be on call - which makes it hard to have a second job - Upper management is out of touch with clients (as seen by insanely high fees) and individual offices

Pros

The friendships you make with other employees is nice.

Cons

The pay is awful. The company itself is too demanding and asks way too much of you. Example giving you no other choice but to extend your daily hours work from say 9-5 to 9-9. They spend millions a year on management companies to to tell us what to do and pays their staff minimum wage and charge their client huge prices. It's like the upper management in Kansas City is pocketing all huge bonuses and paying their employees horribly. The upper management micro manages to an extreme. The employees are supposed to market daily. It's very tacky like stand on the corner and hand out flyers, go to parades and hand out flyers, talk up taxes with all you encounter always. Every year tax pros come back they are paid less than the last year, 80% of lasts actual pay.

Pros

Tax Training, Seasonal Employment, excellent co-workers with extensive experience and skills, really good people.

Cons

Seasonal employment. Poor compensation structure. Upper management delusional. Upwards of 50% turnover in employees in recent years. Corporate pushes you to grow your own book of business and corporate will give clients from your book of business away via online appointment booking or call center appointments to anyone in the office. No loyalty program for returning clients.

Pros

Work is seasonal and carries a cache. People think well of someone with tax knowledge.

Cons

The organization has become large enough that upper management does not fully understand all that those on the ground are doing and this shows in some of the newest directives and decisions handed down.
