We're sorry the experience felt that way overall — and we appreciate you highlighting what did work, like the people and compensation. Leadership challenges and being stretched thin are real issues. High stress & burnout

Pros

Remote work, decent benefits for some things. If you thrive in high stress/high pressure situations, with constant change & pivoting priorities, this place is for you.

Cons

Kin having the value “Operate lean; deliver more” should tell you pretty much everything you need to know about working at this company. There is little to no training yet the expectations to produce & perform are very high. Flexible/unlimited PTO is part of the benefits but if you feel like you can’t ever take time off because you’re so busy with work/deadlines, it’s not really a benefit. Not to mention, the time leading up to taking more than a few days off is SO stressful trying to get everything done or ready to be handed off that you question if it’s even worth it. Burnout is a very real thing at this company. They terminate people quite frequently here so you are often in fear of losing your job which adds another level of stress on top of everything else. While they are flexible, the work/life balance is poor. Working evenings & weekends is frequently necessary to meet deadlines.

Pros

Kin is a forward thinking Insurtech. Coming from an insurance background, it is refreshingly fast-paced. There are so many intelligent and talented people collaborating towards common goals. I have been truly impressed with the Leadership at Kin as well.

Cons

As in every organization, resources are limited. There is a lot of work to be done as the company is growing so fast.

Pros

This company had so much potential 2 years ago....

Cons

In their quest for growth , they focused on just hiring....they hired incompetent sales managers, promoted people based on their tenure and loyalty, no matter how inapproprite these people were.... In customer service the turn over is so high, the employees do not know enough to service the customers correctly and they now moved sales reps into manager roles who do not understand customer service and its processes. In sales, reps sell crappy policies without any consequences and accountability, the managers do not coach them to do the right thing cause the managers do not care either. In underwriting, it depends who is looking at your request and what mood they are in so they might do the right thing or they might not..In product...oh boy....and in senior leadership most don't even know or care what is happening in the rest of the org. Systems are half built and do not accurately work most of the time and workday is awful and is being poorly managed by HR. It is really messy and sloppy. This company needs an overhaul from the top down.

Pros

Work from home and getting to meet new people from your training class

Cons

Worst experience in a training environment I’ve ever had. Unprofessional trainers and management using scare tactics don’t make for a very positive environment. Made me doubt my decision to move over to this company from day one and never got much better from there. Constant fear of losing one’s job and underwriting makes it impossible to write business. Having years of successful sales experience in various industries- very disappointed. Toxic, immature management.

Pros

Decent benefits such as retirement, healthcare, etc. Some good people, though they are starting to quit in droves leaving the toxic ones behind.

Cons

Exceptional performers are pushed to the brink and quitting without a job lined up—this tells you everything you need to know.

Pros

The rank-and-file engineers are great to work with. Lots of smart, generous, kind people.

Cons

Management doesn't know what it wants and how the tech org functions changes every couple of months. Unclear career ladder. Firings come out of nowhere.

Pros

Hire Diversity and work Remote

Cons

This company hired 4 people in a training class and let them all go before the training was over giving nobody a chance. Extremely disrespectful to hire people for 1 month and send them out the door with 1 month severance. Disorganized company that is lean/greedy looking to drop IPO caring very little about individuals who work for them.
