High stress & burnout

Pros

Remote work, decent benefits for some things. If you thrive in high stress/high pressure situations, with constant change & pivoting priorities, this place is for you.

Cons

Kin having the value “Operate lean; deliver more” should tell you pretty much everything you need to know about working at this company. There is little to no training yet the expectations to produce & perform are very high. Flexible/unlimited PTO is part of the benefits but if you feel like you can’t ever take time off because you’re so busy with work/deadlines, it’s not really a benefit. Not to mention, the time leading up to taking more than a few days off is SO stressful trying to get everything done or ready to be handed off that you question if it’s even worth it. Burnout is a very real thing at this company. They terminate people quite frequently here so you are often in fear of losing your job which adds another level of stress on top of everything else. While they are flexible, the work/life balance is poor. Working evenings & weekends is frequently necessary to meet deadlines.

Pros

WFH is amazing. Kin also has great benefits and competitive salary.

Cons

Currently there is a lot of growth and change which can be stressful. But it is all apart of being a start up so it is to be expected.

Toxic Company

Pros

Unlimited PTO Great Health Benefits

Cons

This company is like a bad relationship. At first you think that it's great with all the "friendly" people but then small things start popping up after a year or so. Until you're having panic attacks caused by management

Pros

- Comprehensive training (self-paced and classroom) - Pay/benefits were slightly above average - Amazing knowledge base/resource center

Cons

- Toxic management, especially evident during “CERT” (or ramp up), who takes care of themselves while dismissing concerns - Gaslighting and redirecting of complaints about treatment of fellow training members - On the surface, very tech-forward and “accepting” but ultimately fast-paced and unforgiving (i.e. attendance/points policy)

Pros

Kin has a compelling insurtech concept and a strong public-facing brand, but the day-to-day experience for licensed customer service representatives does not align with the growth, “up-leveling,” and employee investment leadership frequently promotes. Pros: - Fully remote work environment. - Many coworkers are supportive and genuinely try to help one another. - Exposure to a tech-driven insurance model. - Structured workflows that can benefit those new to insurance or customer-facing roles. Good fit for: Early-career professionals looking to gain insurance experience in a remote environment.

Cons

- Compensation does not reflect licensing or scope of responsibility. Licensed customer service representatives can earn significantly more elsewhere in the industry without the same level of pressure or emotional labor. - The licensed customer service department absorbs nearly every issue. Problems from underwriting, sales, renewals, and other departments are routinely redirected to licensed customer service—often by default and sometimes eagerly—regardless of whether those issues are within the role’s control. - High accountability with low authority. Licensed reps are expected to resolve complex issues, manage frustrated customers (especially around renewal increases), and protect the company experience without having meaningful power to change outcomes. - “Upleveling” is largely aspirational. While leadership frequently speaks about growth and development, there are few concrete opportunities, clear advancement paths, or compensation adjustments that reflect increased skill or responsibility. - The workload-to-pay ratio is not sustainable. The expectations placed on licensed professionals are not matched by pay, autonomy, or long-term growth potential.

Pros

Decent benefits such as retirement, healthcare, etc. Some good people, though they are starting to quit in droves leaving the toxic ones behind.

Cons

Exceptional performers are pushed to the brink and quitting without a job lined up—this tells you everything you need to know.

A Great Place to work

Pros

Love what the company stands for - their value and mission align with my own. Also that there is a dedicated team who filters warm leads to our Sales line so no need to go out and market your own leads. The benefits are excellent! But most importantly, the environment and professional but also has a family vibe!

Cons

Working the scheduled time and not having as much flexibility as other insurance agencies may offer. So If you're used to making your own schedule, you may have to adjust to this but overall not really any cons about working with Kin.

Toxic

Business Outlook

Pros

Remote Company/Work from home benefit

Cons

Despite promoting a culture of transparency, this company operates in a manner that contradicts that principle. Leadership, including HR, fosters a toxic work environment where trust is scarce. Employees who dedicate significant effort often find their contributions undervalued and deemed insufficient. Decision-making appears inconsistent, with leadership lacking clear direction. Additionally, individuals are placed in roles for which they may not be suited. Rather than valuing employees as individuals, the company treats them as mere numbers. While initial impressions from recruiters may be positive, new hires quickly realize there is little guidance, and compensation and benefits fall short of expectations.
