Pros

1. The discount is pretty nice (30%). 2. Flexible hours.

Cons

1. Poor pay. Arts & Craft stores typically pay pretty well (Hobby Lobby for example). Not sure how Michaels expects you to use a discount when you're making barely liveable wages. 2. Minimal training. In one 5 day week I had MAYBE 2 hours of training in the CASH OFFICE. Money is pretty important to a company, so I thought my training would be thorough.... nope. Second day in, I was thrown to the wolves: assistant store manager called out, the store manager was off and didn't feel the need to come and help out his store, and the MOD had no clue how to do the cash office. The following week, first day in that week, I was told by the store manager that I was too slow in the cash office and needed to step up my game... 2 hours of training.... 2....

Pros

New CEO is finally taking the company into the future with technology

Cons

Make company-wide decisions that negatively affect the stores and then backtrack consistently; retry same old things over and over again. No hours for PT employees, and because payroll is so constricted management ends up being the staff most of the time.

Pros

Merchandise discount which is still only 20%. Being around people who enjoy crafts, (if you do as well.) Employees find solidarity in their shared misery. At-will employment.

Cons

Low pay -- your labor isn't worth much at Michaels. Horrible hours -- short shifts, often only one cashier on at a time. Poor scheduling choices. High expectations despite virtually no training. Unnecessary gender roles. Terrible customers -- "anything goes" return and coupon policies bring out the worst in people. Long lines during the holidays and weak leadership that can't keep their cool or take control of the floor. Stressful work environment. Shared tills -- you could end up responsible for someones cash handling mistake.
