Pros

The customers are far better than any other retailer…but as far as the company. None. At. All.

Cons

Any and everything you could think of. I never felt guilty about my salary as a GM until I worked at Michaels. Very hard to attract or retain employees when they pay far under market averages. Store consistently ran with just a manager and a cashier…even after being robbed. Was told I was to work mandatory 6 days a week due to staff shortages and when asking about my family was told “ the job should be my priority” - I had stress and anxiety so bad I went on LOA. During that time found something else and ran away as fast as I could.

Pros

Inclusive, tries to create a friendly workplace environment and does not let customers belittle employees

Cons

I was one of the higher paid employees at the store I worked at, full time. But the company continued to cut hours until I went from working 40 a week to 32. I became impossible to keep up with bills and a mortgage. When asking for a raise I was denied. Following this, more responsibility was put on the store to perform better and the store was elevated to an MCX store, no one save the store manager received more money for this extra responsibility. After 6 years with the company, I decided to leave as I could no longer afford to live on the hours and pay they were giving me. They pile responsibility onto you, and offer no compensation in return.

Pros

I would say only the discount. This should say it all. Move on and take the next job.

Cons

SM is salaried but receives pay stub for 40 hours, must be scheduled for 45 (with lunch its minimum of 10hrs in store and when hired my store was so bad I worked 60 conservative days then consistently 50-55 he per week just to get the job done. Company is struggling with obtaining product which impacts teams as no payroll is given to flex empty areas of the store even though it is a requirement. Also, dm likes to ask "how can I support" with zero follow up nor performing visits in store. Also, big disparity in % to comp for bonus by location. Some stores not comping but making bonus and others up 10% and do not.
