Pros

If you're looking for an easy 9-5 in Houston, this could be a good place.

Cons

Management, compensation, and poor technology are all factors on why I left PROS. Management lacks the skill to effectively manage, motivate, and improve employees. For example, a head of a department once stated during an all hands meeting that even though stock price has increased significantly they would not pass along any additional benefits to employees since people weren't leaving because of pay. The technology PROS sells is very expensive and many potential clients often question the value of the investment. I will say that PROS does do a great job with the science of pricing, however the platform they build it on resembles something from the 90's. The platform can only be run with Internet Explorer and outdated Java. Finally, the industry that PROS serves has a low economic moat and medium to low barriers to entry. With new competition coming from large companies like Oracle and small, lean start-ups, PROS will likely struggle in the years to come to keep its technology relevant.

Pros

Fast-growing company with very talented people. Great team spirit. Everyone I've worked with is pushing hard for the success of the company. Top Management is very involved with their employees and every aspect of the business. They are always asking everyone - "What can I do to help." This is not the same company of 4 years ago prior to going public.

Cons

Growing so fast that sometimes the processes are not up to speed with the growth. However, with the talent PROS has, the workarounds and solutions are usually not far behind. Sometimes there is insane pressure and time demands - but the positive is that the work is always appreciated and well compensated!

Pros

Flexible hours, average pay & benefits, travel.

Cons

Very hard to grow, lack of direct support (technical/managerial), they expect you to be self-efficient from the beginning, which is difficult as often hire people with little technical backgrounds - but this is good for their contracts, if they hire people with technicalities who can crash through projects with less than estimated billable hours, their clients would complain for paying too much. In this sense working inefficiently is beneficial to them, as long as it can be controlled. You need to find your own allies here and socialize with them on regular basis, it'd make life a lot easier. This place is not for everyone, especially if you are not from the greater Texas area, those who grew up locally and went to school in UT or UH tend to have better networking opportunities with senior employees, otherwise, be prepared to work 150% harder and do lots of ass-kissing, seriously.
