Pros

Freedom to customize your site to be as relevant as possible to your community, experience with web tools, analytics, backing of a large company, mostly fantastic, smart colleagues.

Cons

Too much top-down management, people in NYC assuming that everyone in your town was interested in vapid content in an attempt to garner page views, some inept middle management, loss of freelancers, and ultimately the company's massive layoffs. Which only hurt our communities that we had worked so hard for.

Pros

Deliver info people actually want/need to know. Get to do some of everything. Benefits are pretty good! Freedom to do what you want (as long as you do enough of it).

Cons

Old editor left and new one was unable to actually manage staff or edit bc he was overloaded and probably just in over his head, and compensated by having a maniacal and exclusive focus on page views. Nothing else mattered and it drove me insane.

Cons

-Not a lot of real journalism -Quietly encouraged to rewrite content from actual local newspapers -Not many field reporting opportunities due to goals -Lots of goals that are tied to only revenue and pageviews
