The reality is very different than the perception

Many of the people who do the work at Samaritan's Purse are wonderful, talented, caring, and sincere. Benefits are generous.
Cons
Despite many good people working throughout the organization, senior leadership tends to be ineffective at best, at worst erratic and irrational. The atmosphere is akin to a typical cutthroat corporate environment with a layer of Christian manipulation on top. Fear and control are motivators for middle managers who discourage innovation for fear of rocking the boat. For this reason, many employees are working far below their skill levels. Promotions and raises are sometimes determined by the employee's political views, age, or gender, as the CEO is a staunch Christian right warrior. Employees are required to work excessive hours and fulfill duties outside their job descriptions without title or compensation. The organization delves deeply into employees' personal lives, examining church attendance, marital status, and social lives. Many employees and former employees are afraid to speak out, fearing church and social exile in this small mountain town. The feeling of "making a difference" at the outset can quickly turn to survival in the crossfires of the executives jockeying for power.
