Pros

Static sales- not the peaks and valleys of normal retailers who run ads. The company has tried to make significant changes in the layout of their stores, but this has done little to increase sales. Margins were high, but this is being eroded away as Babies tries to compete with the Targets and others of this speciality category. Products offered are kept up to date, but warehouse can not supply stores in a consistent manner. Training and onboarding of new employees is not well thought out- they try, but it is confusing and not well executed. Typically a 45-50 hour week.

Cons

Micro-managed/very little room for thought or creativity. Very high turnover with associates throughout chain. No advancement possible for assistant managers as there are few locations so morale is low and turnover high for assistants. Panic has set in at corporate as their competitors gradually take market share so there is a lot of initiatives that are not well planned out and too many coming down the pipeline at once. There is an unhealthy focus on keeping everyone in the stores happy which makes it extremely difficult to manage for fear of "upsetting" an associate, manager, supervisor, etc. R us organization is just getting by

Pros

Non seasonal retail environment. Flexible for raising family. Friendly environment. Bright environment, guests are happy about shopping for babies.

Cons

Financially difficult in area to live on low salary for market area, promotions are very slow. Communication is poor at times, more attention is focused on hourly employees than management associates. Focus groups are provided for associates to vent and air their frustrations, and the same is not provided to management, yet management is held accountable to what some disgruntled employees may say. Upper Management doesn't always support management staff with difficult guests, and decisions are often made based on that lack of support.

Pros

Managers are scheduled 9.5 hours. Managers are also paid hourly, so working retail, this is good. You are paid time and a half for work. The downside of hourly work is that in California there are meal violation laws. As a manager, it can be very difficult to pull away from tasks. Also, TRU is hiring! Leaders recognize that the only way that they remain competitive in retail, is to hire good leaders. The company seems to be very open to new suggestions to improve store performance. Marketing is good. Parents are able to save a lot of money with the many coupons.

Cons

benefits are minimal. The benefits do not offer orthodontic coverage for adult employees. Adult meaning anyone over the age of 19,major internal restructuring, sick time reimbursement does not benefit employees. Also, TRU is hiring!
