Pros

I haven been with dotloop for a little over 4 years and honestly say I would not work for any other company. The culture of dotloop defines who we are and it is the most unique culture I have been a part of. I have never worked with a group of people who are as passionate toward making a company succeed as the people who work at dotloop. I sincerely consider my co-workers family whether it is the people on my team or management/leadership. We even have a culture committee which was set up just for the reason as dotloop understands that its people are its true assets. Social events like Reds games, team outings, and community service events are very common. Career opportunities exist. I started in our customer support department as a customer support rep, moved to our training department, then managed our customer support team, and now work in our Success Department as a a Customer Success Manager. I think what I like best about working at dotloop is knowing that my voice or opinion matters. Product review meetings where you can provide feedback on how to improve the product or provide customer feedback are often held. As well, it is an open door policy and we are encouraged to provide any solutions to better our culture or company (I actually just took a employee feedback survey on Friday).

Cons

We work very hard at dotloop. It seems like those who have not either succeeded at dotloop or were not a good fit were not prepared to work hard. Some weeks I work a lot of hours (50+), other weeks I dont (40 hours) but its important to maximize every second of your day regardless of how many hours you work to be successful at dotloop.

Pros

Working at dotloop has a variety of pros: the culture, the benefits, the laid back yet professional environment, and the opportunity to move up within the company. Being a "looper" you are given the tools and opportunity to grow within the company and management is more than willing to help you find your niche. Along with being able to move up within the company, the health benefits of working at dotloop are excellent as well. Benefits don't only come in your health care package at dotloop though, extra perks are always given to loopers for their hard work such as a free snack bar, a fully paid for holiday trip to Seattle, pool and ping pong tables, and a catered lunch almost every week. These extra perks let us know our hard work is appreciated and makes coming to work pretty enjoyable.

Cons

If working in support you will be expected to work one weekend day. While giving up your Saturday or Sunday isn't ideal, if a customer service representative ever needs off management is always more than willing to work with your schedule.

Pros

Really dedicated team, passionate about the product, a really great product compared to everything else on the market. Great benefits, great perks within the office. Relaxed atmosphere.

Cons

As part of squash there needed to be someone to take billing calls since you aren't trained on that. Also someone in management needs to take calls of irate users, it's not fair for squash to be berated for nothing. That will drive you to quit really quickly so line something up. The office is a little cliquey too, so be prepared to play the game.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'm glad you liked some of the things that make Dotloop an awesome place to work like the benefits, office perks and relaxed atmosphere. We are very proud of our internal promotion rate, some departments being 100% comprised of internal growth. Again, we greatly appreciate your feedback and we will use this to continue to improve. Pros

The culture is my favorite thing about dotloop, I've never worked with a more caring and hardworking group of individuals than I have here. Lots of room to progress your career and move up in the company if you're willing to put forth the time and effort. Management isn't overbearing and lets you learn from your mistakes.

Cons

This may not necessarily be a con depending on who you are, but the fast paced environment of the business can be a bit overwhelming at times if you're not able to change focus quickly. I personally find it exciting.

Great place for self-starters

Pros

I started at dotloop as one of the first 10 employees. Back then, it was a much different place to work...but that's not a good or bad thing. There were things I loved about working here then, and things that I love about working here now. When I started at dotloop, the CTO at the time took me under his wing and taught me everything I needed to know about development in order to succeed here. I literally went from knowing next to nothing, to being able to develop any feature or fix any bug that was asked of me. Dotloop absolutely made me who I am today, and for that I am definitely grateful. As for the company now, it's still an excellent place to work...but you can't expect the same level of personal development that I got. There are still an abundance of learning opportunities to be had here though, given that you put in the passion and effort to take a task and run with it...so don't be put off if you're an inexperienced developer. I think what I like the most about working at dotloop is the level of trust and respect that is given to us. Our team has a great track record in getting things done well and on time, and we are treated accordingly. There are no helicopter-bosses, there's no mandatory clock-in and clock-out time. We are all treated as passionate, intelligent individuals who are all collaborating together to make the dotloop dream come true. The team celebrates victories and learns from their failures together, and it feels like everyone is learning and growing from of one another so we can become better both as a company and as individual developers. From my experience, management will work with you to achieve any goal or area you want to improve in...as long as you're passionate about it and willing to put in the effort. Yes, sometimes that means working late, yes that sometimes means working on the weekend, or spending your free time developing a project to showcase your skills in order to advance...but if you're enjoying it, it's worth your time. In the past the company has struggled with keeping the promises they made, but that has ceased to be an issue in the last 1-2 years. If you want X position, and can spend the time proving that you're capable of delivering what's required of X position...management will take note and work with you on a plan to get you there.

Cons

- There are occasionally times where you'll be working late, or on weekends. They don't happen nearly as often as they used to, as a result of the entire company getting better at estimating, time management, and expectation setting. If you're working late, it's also rarely because a manager asked/forced you to, and more because you're so bought in to the feature you're developing and want to see it succeed. - As mentioned briefly in the Pros section, management has a history of not delivering on promises in the past. The key word here in the past though, as I've seen nothing in the last 1-2 years to suggest that they continue to do this. - The compensation could be higher, but it's by no means bad. Management states that the stock options granted should make up for the market rate differences, but it's always better to not count your chickens before they hatch. - Product direction sometimes dictates the solution rather than the problem. As developers, we love to come up with solutions on our own for solving a certain problem. That's what we are at heart, problem solvers; it's what makes us feel fulfilled after a long day of work. This point has been brought up to management before though, and they've already agreed to keep it in mind and improve. I'm optimistic that this negative will lessen or disappear in the coming months.

WOW. Thank you for this very thoughtful review and for your 5+ years of passionate hard work at dotloop. Your notes are consistent with the feedback that we've heard from Team Innovation previously, so consider us aligned and know that we are working on the items previously discussed - such as "problem solving" vs "solution giving". In full disclosure however, it sounds like we won't be able to keep you from working late and on weekends anytime soon ;). All seriousness, stay passionate and thank you again! Austin

Pros

First and foremost, the culture at dotloop is absolutely phenomenal! We are a family. I have never worked with so many passion-driven individuals who are all on the same path as far as success and growth. We grow together, and we grow dotloop - which is exactly how it should be! This is a great place to make a career. Opportunity arises constantly. Management is supportive and willing to help you achieve your personal goals. They let you learn from your mistakes - fail forward. Benefits are excellent! Upper management actually listens to the employee voice. Completely focused on customer satisfaction and success.

Cons

While I stated that this is a great place to make a career, some individuals may struggle because you essentially have to determine your own path. There are no set career paths, so you never really know in which direction you are headed. I personally enjoy this, I like creating my future, but others enjoy the security in knowing what the next step is. Communication between departments could improve - but I know that this is something we are working towards. I feel that at times, we lose sight of focusing on the few things that matter most- our product in specific. I feel like we are adding things to our site before some of our core functionality issues have been completely resolved.

Thanks for this thoughtful review, and I'm so glad that you feel at home in our culture! As you mentioned, we continue to work on improving cross-departmental communication as well as focusing on the few things that matter most. I'm confident that you will see big improvements on both fronts with the introduction of our new project teams, as discussed in the all-hands FYI meeting last week. That said, we still have work to do and I can assure you that we won't stop until we get it right. Onward! Austin

Work for a fun-loving tech company that is changing an industry.

Pros

Dotloop has all of the perks of a large tech company (free snacks, pool and ping pong tables, gym memberships, etc.), but it maintains the work-ethic of a small start-up. The company was recently bought by Zillow Group, so it has the backing to do big things. Transaction Management is a hot button issue in Real Estate right now and I truly feel like I'm on the right side of the fight. Its so exciting to watch an entire industry change its way of business and finally embrace technology.

Cons

There's so much going on in the office that it can often be distracting. You have to be skilled at zoning into the work that needs to get done. You can see people easily get lost in the mix and become unmotivated. Also, the benefits are amazing, but the salaries leave much to be desired.

Thank you for this review. Your point about focusing on the right things internally is a good one. It's also great to hear that you are enjoying our new Zillow Group benefits! As for compensation, we will continue to evaluate all employees against market to stay competitive. More information on this topic is forthcoming during annual reviews in Q1. Lastly, we appreciate hearing your management advice. We will work this into our bi-weekly FYI Meetings and future quarterly Rallies. Austin, Founder/GM of dotloop.

Pros

Awesome culture & great people to work with - this is something that is of high value in this day and age. People want to be able to relate and get along well with others in a fun environment where they work to beat the monotony of a typical office. By the end of your first day as a dotloop employee, you will see that people are very welcoming and will try to include you! If you are looking for an office where you can develop a family atmosphere with your co-workers, dotloop is definitely one of those places! Awesome office - very unique 2 floors connected by staircase keeping the feel that we are all together, not separated. Amazing benefits - the benefits that we get as employees are amazing! There's too many to list, just know that when you accept a position with dotloop, you will be more happy with the benefits! One of my favorites (but definitely not everyone's) is that your career path is set by you. If you start in customer support or sales (which many of us do), and you don't move up, that is mostly on you. If you work hard, show initiative, and let your superiors know of your intentions to grow within dotloop, you will do just that. I think I am a pretty good testament to that situation: been here about 10 months (at the time of me posting this) worked hard, and was awarded a promotion out of my current department to another one. Upper management does an outstanding job of enabling their employees to grow, which is not typical of many companies. Bottom line: If you take a position with dotloop, it very quickly can become a company you can see yourself working for as your career, not a job.

Cons

Communication. There are times when inter-departmental communication can become convoluted, making it hard to get quick answers for problems...especially in the customer support department.

Thank you for this very thoughtful and thorough review. We will continue to prioritize inter-departmental communication internally, as this tends to be a "moving target" within any rapidly growing organization. Lastly, it's great to see that you've been able to take advantage of growth opportunities this early in your career at dotloop. Congratulations! Austin, Founder/GM of dotloop.

Pros

I work out of the Cincinnati office, and I can say without a doubt that this is the best group of developers / technical team I have ever worked with. Everyone is incredibly talented, and management takes hiring very seriously, ensuring new hires are a great cultural fit. Everyone outside of the technical group is amazing as well. The attitude and overall atmosphere is always very light and energized, making for a truly great and enjoyable workplace. There's also a fully stocked snack bar, which I can't overlook as a really nice "pro". That's just the cherry on top though. Come for the people and environment, stay for all that plus the snack bar 😄

Cons

Every company is not without its cons, but this company in particular has the fewest I have ever experienced. There are some growing pains happening in the product department, which sometimes causes pressure and stress in the development world. That's the biggest con I can think of, which I think says something about working here.

Thank you for this very thoughtful and thorough review. It's great to hear your positive experiences related to our people and work environment - behind every great work place is great people! Your constructive feedback and advice is also appreciated. The "growing pains" in Product are being caused by a resource shortage. Therefore, we are recruiting aggressively and hope to announce a few new Product Loopers very soon. If you have any Designer or PM friends, please send them our way ;). Lastly, maintaining transparency is definitely something you can count on. Thanks again. Austin, Founder & GM
