Thank you for sharing your First Command experience. We are committed to creating and sustaining a culture that inspires our employees and makes them feel appreciated and a part of the First Command family. As part of our commitment to our employees, we’ve implemented a flexible, hybrid work environment which reflects a meaningful balance of in-office experiences with work that can be done virtually. The results of our recent employee experience surveys underscore the value of face-to-face interactions, which allow us to develop deeper relationships and pursue greater creativity and innovation. At First Command, we focus on providing our employees with opportunities for professional growth, and we reward them through an attractive compensation and benefits program. We offer competitive pay determined by third-party studies of employers in our market area, which is supplemented with a generous benefits package. In addition, as an employee-owned company, First Command offers an Employee Stock Ownership Program to qualified employees. This valuable retirement benefit is funded entirely by company contributions. Through this program, our long-term employees are able to amass considerable assets. Thank you again for taking time to share your experience.

Pros

Amazing, dynamic environment at the local (district) offices Local advisors and their teams generally care about the clients; for the most part Stated mission is worthy of respect Many advisors and team members are former military and/or family members of the military Most advisors are independent contracts; make your own schedule

Cons

SALES! This is the singular focus of senior leadership All advisors; regardless of experience & tenure, are held to the same sales metrics without regard to client demographics Sell, sell, sell. The more you sell; the better you are as an advisor Senior leadership is unconcerned with local advisors Senior leadership hiding behind well designed corporate public image deliberately crafted to give the impression the company values the members of the US military; which it does not Many unwritten policies which contradict written policies/procedures Senior leadership has little to no military experience Loyalty is demanded & expected up the chain of command; however, senior leadership shows no loyalty down the chain

Thank you for your feedback. Our Advisors tell us that one of the most compelling elements of this career is the opportunity to serve military personnel and their families in a meaningful way. Four out of five First Command Financial Advisors come from the ranks of veterans and military spouses. For these Advisors, the career is about serving those who serve through quality, face-to-face financial coaching. We do not focus on the sale of any specific type of financial product. Our Advisors offer products and services in the context of a comprehensive financial plan. They present practical financial recommendations that fit the unique circumstances and goals of each client. First Command seeks Advisors who believe in this approach and always put our clients first. In this way, we maintain a culture that reflects the highest ethical standards and best practices of the financial services industry. We encourage Advisors and employees to discuss challenges with their management. In a recent survey, more than 90 percent of employees said they have confidence in the leadership of our organization and believe leaders care about their employees’ well-being. Thank you for your feedback and sharing your experience.
