Pros

-- You're helping people who would not ordinarily come into contact with a financial advisor. -- Remaining a member of a military community. -- You're the CEO of your own business. -- You chose the people who work for you, based on the criteria you establish for serving your client. -- Having control of your time and your life, while assisting others in improving the quality of their lives.

Cons

Should you desire to call them "cons"-- -- You alone are responsible for your own success, and the company leadership will do everything possible to ensure you succeed. -- You need to be available when your clients are; so you will need to work some Saturdays to ensure both yours and your clients' success. -- Despite your delivering the best service and products possible, not everyone will heed your advice or take your recommendations; everyone has the freedom to choose, so anticipate that from the outset and don't let it destroy what your are there for. -- This isn't a job, it's a vocation, and one must bear in mind that one is planting shade trees under which one will never sit. -- It requires that you work hard; there's no "gimme". The harder you work and the more effort you put into this, the luckier you will be.

Pros

They allow for company ownership via their partnership awards and do provide initial financial support for new advisors as well as some existing "starter" clients.

Cons

The "starter" clients are generally not the most desirable and while they are a full service financial planning operation there is a lot of emphasis on insurance.

Pros

Company lives its work-live balance culture and its values; depends on the region though.

Cons

benefits, training and promotion dont enter into the situation until you have proven that you can sell. Training is scant, benefits are unclear and promotion appears purely political
