Thank you for sharing some of the benefits of a career with First Command, including flexibility and support in building your business. One of our most valuable offerings is the Fast Start program, which provides intense professional development to prepare new people for success as independent Advisors. Some of the benefits of that program include paying new Advisors during the training period and offering a full array of employee benefits. Through the program, our Advisors learn how to build and grow their own business, serve new clients and provide quality, face-to-face financial coaching. Our Advisors are eligible to earn a strong income through competitive industry commissions on sales of financial products, plus additional annual and deferred compensation. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking time to share your experience.

Pros

Very easy for people with families to work here. Very understanding people while also very nice.

Cons

The pay is not good enough compared to the rest of the job market, unless you are willing to sacrifice 3+ years for a good salary.

Thank you for taking time to share your First Command experience. The mission of the company is incredibly important to our employees and Advisors. They tell us that one of the most compelling elements of this career is the opportunity to serve military personnel and their families in a meaningful way. Four out of five First Command Financial Advisors come from the ranks of veterans and military spouses. For these Advisors, the career is about serving those who serve through quality, face-to-face financial coaching. At First Command, we maintain our strong culture and mission by attracting and retaining talented people. We focus on providing our employees with extensive training and opportunities for professional growth, and we reward them through an attractive compensation and benefits program. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking time to share your experience.

We are committed to creating and sustaining a culture that inspires our employees and makes them feel appreciated and part of the First Command family. Encouraging feedback and constructive criticism is part of that commitment. Your comment on compensation is an important one. We offer competitive pay and benefits to employees in our Home Office in Fort Worth, Texas. Local Advisors are responsible for the pay and benefits they offer to their office managers and other support staff professionals in our local offices. In all cases our goal is to attract the best employees and reward them for committed service. First Command maintains an open-door policy, and we encourage employees to discuss business-related problems with their supervisors or management. Employee surveys and Glassdoor reviews provide us critical insights, so thank you for taking time to share your perspective.

Pros

Great people to work with.

Cons

First Command never learns. Let's overwork, and under pay employees! Let's cut jobs, and divide up the work between existing employees. Let those employees work hard, and longer with no additional pay compensation. Oh but wait we can tout the ESOP! Which is great, but let's face it I can't live off the ESOP, I live off my salary.

Pros

Great culture, and hybrid work with a requirement to work in the office 2 days a week. ESOP is a fantastic benefit once you've been there for 6+ years. The benefits are great for a company of its size, especially the maternity/paternity leave. Leadership works hard to be as transparent as they can be, and there are a lot more women in leadership roles than most financial firms. You also feel like a family in a non toxic way.

Cons

Pay is lower than you can find elsewhere, however the ESOP will make up for this if you stay awhile. You can also find better benefits elsewhere at a bigger firm. The culture has a lot of conservatives politically which can always get annoying, but it is fort worth. Management could be more focused and less centralized.

Pros

They starting pay is decent but the work load is way too much to complete in a day. Handleing in person transaction, online help, mail, making, being the front line for the rest of the departments. Not to mention the manager didn’t manage. I had someone train me who had only been there for 6 months and never worked in a financial institution before. Upper management allows bullying and turns head. Not to mention defamation of character by a jealous coworker and if I thought there would be a paper trail, I would go after for wrongful termination. Save your sanity and find another financial institution.

Cons

All the pros are cons

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience as a First Command Financial Advisor. We seek to attract and retain talented people by providing employees and Advisors with opportunities to enhance their professional knowledge, develop leadership skills and grow within the organization. As you note, our Advisors do face some challenges, but they also enjoy many opportunities. Our Advisors go through an extensive training program designed to equip them to succeed as independent contractors. Some of the benefits of that program include paying new Advisors during the training and licensing period and offering a full array of employee benefits. They are eligible to earn a strong income through competitive industry commissions on sales of financial products, plus additional annual and deferred compensation.
