Data Team ( the great resignation)

Pros

The company took excellent care of its employees during Covid and didn’t lay off almost anyone. It’s a very stable place to work and people are friendly for the most part The company gave excellent agile training and training in new technologies The CEO took the time to speak with each team about the yearly goals which speaks volumes. In most companies CEOs never introduce themselves to every employee in the home office

Cons

In the span of a year the data team has lost numerous team members due to terrible management. This includes several data engineers , a scrum master, two product owners and several contractors. Be prepared to have production support shifts where you will need to be up at 5 am even on the weekend for two week shifts. This will most likely not be told to you during the interview of course. The management in this team doesn’t care for agile and will pull team members to work on random pet projects even if those team members are working on very critical and time sensitive items that the executive team wants them to work on. They don’t seem to understand or care that this type of behavior will result in lots of defects and garbage output.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience as a First Command Financial Advisor. We seek to attract and retain talented people by providing employees and Advisors with opportunities to enhance their professional knowledge and develop leadership skills. One of our most valuable offerings is the Fast Start program, which provides intense professional development to prepare new people for success as independent Advisors. Some of the benefits of that program include paying new Advisors during the training period and offering a full array of employee benefits. Through the program, our Advisors learn how to build and grow their own business, serve new clients and provide quality, face-to-face financial coaching. They learn how to coach our clients to become financially disciplined and confident in their pursuit of financial security. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Pros

- Growth! Company is doing well financially. Employees benefit with ESOP and job security - Focused on psychological safety, training/development, agile, diversity & inclusion - Lots of job opportunities

Cons

- Surplus of training, development and opportunity with little financial incentive to stay, particularly for individual contributors. Attrition is putting a huge strain on hiring managers. - Technology (BIS) leadership is problematic with a lack of effective engagement within the organization. Senior leadership openly bad mouths teams and people, causing a divide. - Everyone is busy, but not productive. It's a common complaint to be rushing from back to back meetings, context switching, triple booked, etc... when does value get delivered?

Pros

Great teams in most locations, clear vision and mission (military), ability to help families, training and development.

Cons

Cost of operation is one of highest in the industry, have to sell whole life insurance to maximize recognition and income, technology is lagging, compensation is among lowest in industry, success is mostly determined by if you are in a military market--incentives are tied to military sales.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Advisors tell us that one of the most compelling elements of this career is the opportunity to serve military personnel and their families in a meaningful way. That means providing quality, face-to-face financial coaching. Regarding your comments on whole life insurance – our company does not focus on the sale of any specific type of financial product. Our Advisors offer products and services in the context of a comprehensive financial plan. We maintain a culture that reflects the highest ethical standards and best practices of the financial services industry. Regarding the cost of operation, it’s important to note that office bills and other expenses are part of the financial responsibilities that come with being an independent contractor. Instead of receiving a salary and benefits, our Advisors earn competitive commissions and bonuses. And from that money they pay their business expenses. The rewards of hard work and dedication are a satisfying career, a company that fully supports you, and the opportunity to help those who serve in their pursuit of lifelong financial security. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

Military! Family!

Business Outlook

Pros

This is the best place to get the support and training you need to be a financial advisor, and if you are a veteran or military or family of military it is even better. I have never met anyone who knows or cares more about the helping military families, and the culture of the company is all about praising and taking care of its people

Cons

The cons are specific to being a Financial Advisor, it is not an easy job, it requires you to put the work in, but their are few careers out there that will give you the same benefits and satisfaction.
