Pros

Great local team. Work from home options

Cons

The US company has removed the local software engineering management - software teams now report to US managers who don’t know and don’t care about their employees. Mass exodus of experienced staff means more workload for those that stay. Only get training mandated by the company. Training requested in development plan is ignored for years. Little career development. Lots of unpaid overtime work expected. Most software development being offshored. Early morning and late evening meetings with other time zones.

Pros

Worked on some interesting high profile projects and gained invaluable experience professionally that has helped me in subsequent jobs. Good software development practices are encouraged. Co-workers are generally of a good calibre. Multicultural working environment. Some nice perks like shopping discounts, medical expenses cover, excellent restaurant and free online training.

Cons

Team leads tend to micromanage a lot and don't give much flexibility. They are good technically but lack emotional intelligence. Software is fairly old. Recognition awards tend to be biased. Pay rises are pretty small. There were a lot of contractors during my time, most of whom had been there for years and years like resident staff, costing the company a ton of money. Having so many was myopic in my opinion.

Pros

Sick pay 4 days on and 4 days off

Cons

Terrible training basically threw into the job with very little training given tickets (jobs) and expected to get on with it it's just guess work half the time. They tell you to follow the KB (guide on how to do things) which are poorly written and over complicated. Managers are no help half of them are not trained in the contracts and have no clue how to deal with the tickets. The only time you hear from a manager is when you have done something wrong. No personal skills or empathy you are just a number especially with the senior management. You get a load of junk emails regarding well being and how to look after yourself but they don't give a crap about you. The pay is terrible they never give yearly raises new people are starting at the company who are on the same wage as people who have been there for years. Happy to be out of there the most awful company I ever worked for. Don't work here far more better paid jobs in the area with companies that will treat you better.

Pros

Most of the colleagues are nice (lower management) Interesting simulation in house software free carpark (Work area at camps/training area) oversea exposure SA has a shared vehicle to run site

Cons

Customer dictates on how the operation should runs and the management will just yes sir yes sir. Too many ex army Over promise from management. Leak of man power for over a year. Not much benefit. IT Equipment stock take all over the place and site. Very out dated system and server 2008, 2012 R2, so don't expect to learn new tech. (no cloud, AWS, SAN storage, slow network that cant even handle more then 500mb of transfer). Work area at camps/training area deploy outfield. work 24hrs rest 24hrs only can claim taxi after 10pm. site to site cant claim taxi SA but other department will think you are the desktop support. Oversea usually work more then 48hrs and stay in motel/apartments to save cost. HR hire anyone without relevant IT knowledge or certification. Management don't really care about employees feelings or growth. Its all dollars and cents to them and you are easily replaceable.

Pros

- Colleagues are, for the most part, helpful and pleasant to work with - Frequent 1-2-1 meetings with my line manager - Little to no micromanagement within my team. - Understanding and supportive managers (at least within my team) they are ready to compromise and find solutions for you. - Training offered and you are encouraged to grow your skillset - Great work life balance. - Comfortable place to work with little office politics

Cons

- Upper and middle management often removed from the work (where the rubber meets the road) and they tend to make bizarre and incorrect moves, this is things such as pushing employee led OKR and then not listening to input from employees. - No possibility of paid overtime - Bonuses (for non-management employees) are exceedingly rare - Low pay rises - Lack of transparency to the staff from management. For example when Cubic was telling staff that they weren't going to sell and become a private company and then all of a sudden they sold the company.
