Pros

I got paid on time!

Cons

It’s all politics! Every organization has some but here it is the culture. It’s got the makings of a reality show. The worst leadership/management team of any organization I’ve ever been around. Most management has no experience managing a bank this size and lacks basic education. Pay and benefits are terrible! Way below industry norms. High turnover of course, no training, uneducated management team who is focused on self promotion. Favoritism and politics. Think you can work hard and get promoted? Not here. If you are a yes person, don’t have any self-respect, and know how to blame others for your mistakes and shortfalls you will get far here. The bank has grown too fast for its own good. Processes are outdated and inefficient. One group forwards an email to another group, who forwards to another then another and another while cc’ing half the bank; that’s just to reset a password. There is no work life balance. Any 4 and 5 star reviews have to be fake or from someone who just started. At the end of the day if you take a position and what you have read starts to ring true then don’t wait to make your great escape because it won’t get better.

Pros

Hard work or colleague departure = Good opportunities for advancement Great new grad or short-term entry-level experience Diverse set of responsibilities to learn (usually not listed on job description) Familiar company mindset (if you are Asian) Lots of open positions for considering intracompany career changes Active in the LA community, with plenty of partnerships and corporate sponsorships Surprisingly decent benefits (401k matching, medical+dental, maternity leave, etc.)

Cons

Company is experiencing extreme turmoil with recent executive departures and audit issues Many employees are ESL and have difficulty communicating They work hard, not smart, and choose to reprimand employees who make improvement suggestions Management can be intimidating, aggressive, and demanding (notice how many anonymous reviews there are) Office politics and childish feuds to "impress the boss" IT and digital support systems very outdated and inefficient Expectation to cater to Asian community, and expectation of "Asian perfection" Excessive meetings/conference calls where half the time is spent reminding people to mute their phones (rather than develop a "mute all" button) Company culture is suspect of innovation, creativity, and new ideas Tremendously underpaid (yet record-breaking year-over-year growth?) Underwhelming, uninspiring bank products and very few customer promotions make for difficult sales

Pros

They invested millions of dollars in new technology, which was a good learning experience. There were a few talented people on my team.

Cons

Most of my team members never spoke, they just kept to themselves and did not like to share their knowledge. Not a sociable atmosphere at all. The El Monte Operations center is in a terrible area, the building was old, smelly and filled with roaches. The A/C didn't work most of the time. Being located in the San Gabriel Valley where the average summer temperature is 100°, it was often unbearable. Management is a joke. The same bad managers keep getting promoted over and over again, making more and more money. A lot of office politics. The HR department is also a joke. When you have a legitimate complaint against your supervisor, they side with the company, not yours. Employee favoritism is HUGE in this company. You can do a great job and get nothing (no compliments, feedback on your performance, raise, or bonus), or you can do a lousy job and get promoted AND a raise, if you are “in” with the right manager. They also eliminated the work from home policy, but some certain “favorite” people still got to work from home.
