Pros

* The Mission - helping military families achieve their financial goals -- it's a noble mission and brings meaning to my career; no one but First Command serves this important group when and where they need help * The People - whether in the field (advisors and field leadership) or at the Home Office -- what a great assembly of committed individuals; we work hard and have fun * The Work -- we have a lot of it but it is worthy and noble work and challenging * 100% employee owned through ESOP (currently a 15% profit sharing plan distribution) * 100% transparent business planning process * Complete transparency to all employees and advisors as to financial results * Committed to Diversity and Inclusion * We have a material part of the work force who left our company and came back - that says a lot (we call them boomerang employees and they are a great testimonial)

Cons

* Technology is being upgraded (which needs to happen as we have tech debt) but it is causing a remapping and rewiring of processes, procedures, workflows, etc. - and change can be difficult and challenging at times

They tell us that one of the most compelling elements of this career is the opportunity to serve military personnel and their families in a meaningful way. Pros

1. Military Spouse Friendly 2. Ability to build on my career, even when PCSing often. 3. First Command is a big enough company to make a difference across the military, but a small enough company to still feel like a family. 4. Retirement - we have the ability to build on our own retirement plan - we have a great deferred compensation plan.

Cons

1. Client facing technology is not as good as competitors.

Thank you for sharing your experience as a First Command District Advisor. The mission of the company is incredibly important to our Advisors. They tell us that one of the most compelling elements of this career is the opportunity to serve military personnel and their families in a meaningful way. Four out of five First Command Financial Advisors come from the ranks of veterans and military spouses. We value the career contributions of military spouses, whose understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with life in the military makes them ideal for the role of financial coach. We offer portable, rewarding positions that allow military spouses to build careers that fit into their lives. We provide industry-leading training, mentoring, professional development and compensation. It’s why we’ve been recognized as a Military Friendly® Spouse Employer for five years in a row. At First Command, we are dedicated to making continuous investments in our processes, systems and technology to enable ongoing business growth and enhance our client experience. We rely on employee surveys and Glassdoor reviews to gain critical insights and continue to improve, so thank you for sharing your feedback.

A True Meritocracy

Business Outlook

Pros

First Command has been the first organization I have ever worked for, that appears to be a true meritocracy. Opportunity is based upon performance and not who you know. One's abilities and the accomplishments therein govern the path and success one achieves. As the sole business owner, the decisions and management style of others is not part the equation, as it relates to your day-to-day operations. Rather it is you the owner that charts your own course and manner in how you the owner pursues the goals inherent in that course. Owners have access to the best mentors, educational programs, principals. With that support, establishing a business model best suited for me, pursuing that which I deem worthy, and achieving success on my terms, based upon my merit is why I have chosen as a life long career, First Command.

Cons

Many people express some consternation with compensation occurring once a month versus twice a month.

Thank you for taking time to share your experience as a First Command Financial Advisor. We seek to attract and retain talented people by providing Advisors with opportunities to enhance their professional knowledge, develop leadership skills and grow within the organization. Our Advisors go through an extensive training program designed to equip them to succeed as independent contractors. Some of the benefits of that program include paying new Advisors during the training period and offering a full array of employee benefits. They are eligible to earn a strong income through competitive industry commissions on sales of financial products, plus additional annual and deferred compensation. The rewards of hard work and dedication are a satisfying career, a company that fully supports you, and the opportunity to help those who serve in their pursuit of lifelong financial security. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for sharing your experience.
