Pros

If you want a job that is and emotionally rewarding and fulfilling and at the same time financially rewarding to your family, this is it. I retired from the Air Force not knowing what to do and my advisor talked to me about the opportunity to work for First Command. I was hesitant at first because that was outside of my area of expertise. He told me the number one criteria to hire a financial advisor is the innate desire to help people. I took a chance and I am so, so glad I did.

Cons

The cons of this job are the instances where someone you’re coaching is not receptive to help. I imagine, much like a fitness coach or personal trainer, not all of their clients really put in all the effort. But for those who do, the results are amazing.

Pros

The people that worked there were friendly. I worked in HQ so it was nice to have an onsite bank and ATM accessible. Different food vendors for lunch was nice. There’s a gym onsite as well.

Cons

Too many systems the company uses for account information and databases. It can be confusing at times. The culture could use some improvement. When I started working for the company I didn’t receive anything to make me feel welcome. Not even a pen. My department was heavy on the micromanaging which isn’t necessary. While majority of the company worked 2 days in office, my department worked 3 days. My department and others are overworked and underpaid.
