Being an Advisor

Pros

Great atmosphere depending on what district you are in. Unlimited income, flexible schedule. Get to make a difference in peoples lives. The dynamics of the job can be great. People who make it stay on for a long period of time.

Cons

Can work long hours, may have to tell people what they don't want to hear, rejection. Sometimes people have unrealistic expectations and they take it hard when you tell them the reality. Not everyone is ready to have a financial advisor in their lives.

Pros

Flexible working hours. Ability to go to the annual conference. Really can't think of anything else as i see nothing positive about this company.

Cons

I worked for this company for 5 years. Leaving them is like leaving a Mafia family. They will destroy your reputation and break you financially. Only join this company if you plan to make this your last employer. They use the word, loosely, Independent Contractor. You are nothing close to that. You are mandated to turn out their Whole Life planning tool, and are compensated handsomely for that. If you sell a client a term or UL, that is if you can get the plan approved you are paid a third of whole life. They prey on the military and take advantage of our armed forces. If you leave the company they hold your compensation for a year and after that time they refuse to pay you, saying you are in breach of your Advisory Agreement. Currently they have lawsuits pending from previous Advisors, they just lost a $1.8 million case and are about to lose another 3. They have little regard for the Advisors and want them to be indebted to the company. The District Advisor is also compensated on your production and he or she has full access to all clients. He or she can disperse those clients at will and also take them away at will. If a client moves out of the area you are forced to give them up to another Advisor to the area the client has moved. This stops you developing a relationship with the client. They talk about your book of business, don't be fooled, you Dont have one, they do.

Terrible experience

Pros

Unlimited earning potential. Once you become independent, you can set your own work schedule (within reason).

Cons

Management/Leadership has very little interest in helping new advisors be successful. I was expected to work well over 60 hours per week to included weekends and federal holidays, but I was only compensated based on a company published 40 hour work week. I had very little (none) support from my immediate leadership even after asking for assistance on numerous occasions!

Pros

Flexible hours, base pay, good kick off program. You don't have to pay to play. The company is pro military.

Cons

You do not get leads. Any sales you make will be from personal contacts. You are not allowed to sell to anyone with GHI under $40,000 or active duty under E5. Get good at obtaining and meeting with referalls, it is the only way your business will grow. They do not invest much in marketing, other than hiring people with good looking networks. Once your personal well runs dry, you have no leads to turn to. This usually results in the advisor looking for another company to work for within a couple of years.

Mission gone wrong.

Pros

Free gym and covered parking.

Cons

They don't provide training to employees, they micro manage but with lack of direction or goals, there is a lot of finger pointing and management does not want to take responsibility. 2% to 0% on employee pay raises. Executives have a lot of off site meetings with big budget meals. Depressing atmosphere, lots of people always coughing and sneezing. No career opportunities, long hours, and 1950's culture.
