Pros

Career Opportunities--- Managers pay attention to employees' ambitions, recognize good work ethic, and reward it through well-deserved promotions. The company takes a balanced approach as they grow, developing their own people in addition to successfully attracting external talent. Company Culture--- The culture here is unparalleled. When people hear "diversity" it's usually just a buzzword. SS takes it to heart by focusing on more than just demographics. You'll find hipsters who bike to work sitting next to country folk who drive F-150s. Everyone actually feels comfortable being themselves here. The diversity even extends to political views, which is incredible given the current climate. *It helps that HR is incredibly helpful and responsive no matter how large or small the concern.* Company Vision & Agility--- SS is always focused on improving its platform and operations, pivoting quickly when needed and staying responsive to customer concerns. The business model itself is ingenious and makes me confident in the company's continued success. In short, I genuinely love coming to work every day. This place makes me incredibly happy and is the primary reason I decided to stay in Gainesville long term. Though I think there's always room for improvement, I have a strong foundation of trust with the principles and character of this company and don't foresee that changing. They want to do right by both their employees and customers.

Cons

Planning & Process--- A function of being in rapid growth mode, is that sometimes things move so quickly that details aren't ironed out before new processes/projects begin. These tend to snowball into bigger headaches than they should. There could be a better balance between planning and implementation. "Measure twice, cut once." Data-driven to a fault--- SS is true to its own rhetoric, making many decisions based on internal research. This is a GREAT approach; let's be clear on that. The drawback is that sometimes too many metrics are being tracked, thus muddying the conclusions drawn. It would be helpful to focus on only a few variables at a time before adding new metrics, as to better understand cause and effect. **The new COO has made business intelligence a priority, so I'm confident this concern will begin to evaporate under his leadership.** These are areas for potential improvement, but by no means are significant enough to deter anyone from coming onboard.

Pros

* Most of the people you work with are the nicest people in the world. * You'll get valuable software development experience which will help you get a job somewhere else.

Cons

* The good ol' boys mentality is the absolute worst. The saying "To get to the top, you have to drink at The Top" (local Gainesville bar) is so incredibly true. I've witnessed multiple times people be passed over for promotions for someone who was drinking buddies with someone in senior management. * The sales team is treated way better than anyone else in the company. If you read a review on here from someone with the title 'Director of Partnerships' they're just a member of the sales team. The sales team are consistently given special treatment and spend most of their time harassing the development team about minor issues and going unchecked. * The way Rick Carlson (CEO) is managing the company is terrible. He surrounds himself with Yes-Men which has lead to the promotions of people who are grossly unable to do their jobs but were promoted because they agreed to his every demand. He is the most micromanaging person I have ever met, personally proofreading every single help document article that is published and wanting full reports on any downvotes that happen to articles. * On the software side, projects and development priorities change on a whim based on whatever flavor of the month idea the CEO comes up with. Every new idea is the next most important idea leaving much of the application half-baked. Iteration is almost a dirty word to SharpSpring, where a project will begin development and planning for a V2 or V3 is frowned upon, because they want everything done in V1. MVP never means MVP and new features are consistently added into V1 delaying release instead of basic agile release and iteration. * The onboarding team has gone from a great group of customer advocates and application teachers to salesmen focused on nothing else. New clients get pressured to sell more SharpSpring to their clients instead of having a helping hand in using it as a tool to help their business.
