Good but Hard

Pros

Great team environment where everyone wants you to grow. Upward movement can be unlimited, but lack of training hurts your chances first couple years.

Cons

Very sales oriented, especially towards insurance. Company does little to help you build your book and only markets towards military which hurts your outreach if not in a military town. Really depends what office you’re in but SF Bay Area is very hard for new advisors. Leadership increases production goals every year and if you’re business is service heavy towards existing clients, feels like a very far reach to hit their production standards without sacrificing servicing. Little to no support unless you hire and pay your own employees. Pays very low at the beginning and you end up not having enough to support your business by hiring employees.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re glad you’ve found value in the team environment and growth potential. We also acknowledge your concerns around training, market access, and early-stage advisor support, especially in regions like the Bay Area. Feedback like yours helps us evaluate how we can better equip new advisors for success and ensure our expectations are realistic and achievable across all locations. Your input will be shared with leadership for continued improvement.

Pros

First Command offers a unique opportunity to do deeply meaningful work—helping military families and others pursue financial security. The company culture is rooted in service, integrity, and collaboration. Advisors have access to a structured planning process, top-tier training, and a strong network of support staff. Leadership truly cares about both clients and team members, and the mission-first mindset is evident at every level.

Cons

Like any financial firm, the role can be demanding and requires self-motivation, especially in the early stages of building a practice. It’s not a “plug and play” job—you have to be committed to the process and to your clients’ well-being. But for those who are mission-driven, it’s incredibly rewarding.
