Pros

Holidays off, some advisors give you bonuses if they feel generous in sharing the ones they earn

Cons

Administrative Assistants are hired directly by the Financial Advisor, sometimes this means you work for a tyrant. I worked for a woman who in a years time went through close to 15 people in my position. In the interview she stated she would give 6 months training but would demean her employees and micromanage them. Her employees never left the 6 months training period. There was nobody to report her behavior to because the advisors are considered “small business owners” so they just rented their space. Absolutely no accountability for the advisors actions.

Pros

From the moment I joined, I was encouraged to set ambitious goals and provided with the resources and support needed to achieve them. The company offers a variety of professional development programs, including mentorship, training sessions, and workshops, which have significantly enhanced my skills and knowledge.

Cons

Benefits could be better, especially around the amount of PTO upon starting as it is accrued. It is nice that you are able to rollover PTO though!

Thank you for sharing your experience. At First Command, one of our most valuable offerings is the Fast Start program, which provides intense professional development to new, independent Advisors. Some of the benefits of that program include paying new Advisors during the training period and offering a full array of employee benefits. Through the program, our Advisors learn how to build and grow their own businesses, serve new clients, and provide face-to-face financial coaching. Upon graduation, our Advisors can earn a strong income through competitive industry commissions on sales of financial products, plus additional annual and deferred compensation. Regarding your comment on insurance, our company does not focus on selling any specific type of financial product. Our Advisors offer products and services in the context of financial coaching through a comprehensive financial plan. Financial coaching is our Mission, and financial planning and advice are our primary offerings. We waive financial planning fees for our active-duty clients and ensure the financial plan's cost does not impede military families from getting started as early as possible on their path to pursuing financial security. First Command seeks Advisors who believe in this approach and always put our clients first. In this way, we maintain a culture that reflects the financial services industry's high ethical standards and best practices.

Pros

There is great support from the company as well as training for getting into finance without a background in the field. Amazing team and work culture.

Cons

Have to build your own leads and possibilities. Do not expect anyone to just walk through the door and fall in your lap.

Pros

- sponsored licensing period - frequent corporate trainings and support - support/training in your local office - "fast start" program for new advisors (6 months salaried @ 4k/mo while in the fast start program) - once you graduate the fast start program, you have SIGNIFICANT autonomy to build your business - capable corporate IT department - leaders of many other departments are amazing, capable and experienced - military focused organization (80% of advisors are either current or retired military, most company is very punctual, regimented & detailed or has significant leadership experience as a result of their time in the military)

Cons

- company growing pains (no one has the same answer for 1 question) - overly complicated advisor compensation (1,072 rules dictate how advisors are compensated) I heard multiple times "My paycheck is a surprise every month." - due to SIGNIFICANT autonomy getting your business rolling successfully within 1-3yrs is exceedingly difficult. - military focused organization (lots of dominant personalities, your area of specialty/how you run your book of business will change depending on what First Command location you work in.

Pros

First Command has a wonderful culture. As a home office employee, they value the work-life balance and offer extra "flex" PTO days to support that. They're always striving to improve the experience for employees and clients alike. I've worked both in the field and at home office and have had a great experience overall.

Cons

As a field advisor, you're income is entirely tied to how well you do. Each office is also different in support and training.
